Quantifying Available Water at the Village Level

December 2, 2008

Cara Shonsey, a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and master’s candidate in Michigan Tech’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, will talk about her Peace Corps work in Mali and her related research.

As a Peace Corps volunteer, Cara was stationed in a small, remote village and as a water and sanitation extension agent, focused on water access and hygiene. While working in the village, Cara identified the need for improved knowledge of groundwater availability and formed her research around the hand-dug wells that acted as the village’s primary water source.
