Iraq: the Cradle of Civilization

March 18, 2008

Sinan Abood, Fulbright scholar and graduate student in Civil and Environmental Engineering & Forestry departments will present on the historico-cultural significance of Iraq.

Iraq is Historically known as Mesopotamia, which literally means (between the rivers) in Greek. this land was home to the first civilization, making the region the center of what is commonly called the "cradle of Civilization". During the last five years, Iraq suffered a hard time establishing a new ruling system and new way of life, and with the help of local and International Media the name and identity of Iraq changed from the Cradle of Civilization to the land of violence. I hope my preentation can remind others of the rich cultural heritage of the country of Iraq and dispel images of Iraq as a violent and unruly country.
